HORIZON COFFEE PROCESSING AND STORING PLANT

Horizon coffee processing and storing plant was privatized from the government to MIDROC investment group on Sene 01, 2005 E.C. Horizon Plantation coffee processing and storing plant is a service provider. It gives various services such as storing and processing coffee beans.

After the privatization of developmental organizations under the government, the plant was incorporated into MIDROC Investment Groups, Horizon Plantation on Sene 01, 2005. After the transfer, the plant started work in a renewed manner. The plant has since been able to play a major role in gaining foreign currency by increasing the quality of the service it provides.

The main goal of the plant is to increase the quantity of coffee export without compromising quality enabling the country to increase the level of foreign currency the country gets from coffee exports.

Expansion projects

THE JUTE BAG: the factory is planning to expand its coffee packaging production plant so its capacity can double from its current 4,230 jute bags per day to double the amount.

ROASTED AND PACKED COFFEE PRODUCTION UNIT:

Even though currently roasted and packed coffee is being distributed to the market through Queen’s super market, a sister company. The plant plans on expanding its roasting and packing machines in order to supply packed coffee to the foreign market.

BRIQUETTES CHARCOAL FROM COFFEE BY PRODUCTS:

The plant produces briquettes charcoal from coffee by products and wood specks for heating boiler rooms. All the services are found in the company’s compound.

COFFEE PROCESSING FOR EXPORT

This service is provided in the main compound of the factory. The plant began providing this service when the plant was established in 1986.

The plant has the capacity to store and process coffee in a manner that fulfills all the international quality standards that have been set.

One thing that makes the service provided by this plant unique is the fact that it uses a coffee color sorting machine that separates the coffee beans based on their color. This smoothens the way for the plant to fulfill the preconditions that are set by stake holders for the export of coffee to foreign markets.

 In addition, all the services are given in one station at the same compound. The plant is playing a great role in generating foreign currency for the country through the export of coffee products.

STORING EXPORT COFFEE

The storage service is given in the plant’s compound. The plant began giving this service right after it was established in 1986.

The plant provides quality storage services. The company’s storage warehouses are built to accommodate a large quantity of goods without compromising the quality and safety of the goods.

The service provided by this plant is significantly different from other companies because all the services are provided in one location. In addition, the warehouses are built in such a way that quality is not compromised.

JUTE BAG PRODUCTS

The Jute bags are produced in the production factory found in the compound. The production of coffee jute bags was started in 2013 E.C. The plant utilizes the latest threading machines enabling it to produce sacks competitive in the international market in quality and quantity. What makes this service provider or factory different from others like it is that it is located in a compound where coffee is stored and processed in mass.

This makes the services in that compound interconnected and it is convenient for customers as they find all the services, they need in one place.

The factory not only provides job opportunities for the youth living in the area, but it also helps the country retain foreign currency by replacing imported sacks as much as possible. Currently the bags are produced and sold in the plant’s compound.

ROASTED COFFEE

Like all the other service products, roasted coffee is also produced in the same compound. The plant started providing services in 2013 E.C. The plant upholds its standards by utilizing the latest roasting and grinding machines. In doing so the plant has been able to fulfill its customers’ demands regarding quality and quantity.

The product is unique to other products because the coffee supplied for roasting is from our farms which enable the quality to be of the same standard.

In addition, the needed amount can be supplied from there. The plant is following the directive placed by the government by adding value to coffee products before putting it out to the market.

The packaged roasted coffee is found mainly in our sister company queens supermarket and other supermarkets.

The plant has planned to add additional hulling and pulping machines in order to increase the amount of coffee for export markets.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)

The plant has fulfilled its corporate responsibility by providing financial assistance to the Ethiopian defense force, GERD, various displaced citizens and for other people that need assistance in the kebeles where the plant is located. The total sum expense for the CSR works in recent time is 7,925,841 ETB.

Environmental Conservation:

When it comes to environmental conservation, the plant has had an international company Prepare a plan for environmental conservation.

The study and plan are currently being reviewed by the environmental conservation authority. Meanwhile the plant has built long walls around its compound to prevent and reduce dust particles reaching the society residing in the vicinity during the coffee preparation process.
