National Mining Corporation PLC was founded on March 18, 1993 G.C by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi. Ethio-Libya was transferred from the government to the National Mining Corporation on March 18, 1993 G.C

The company founded as National Mining Corporation Private Share Company by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi and Sheikh Hassen Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi in 1996 G.C. On March 1, 2015 G.C, it acquired a state-owned enterprise: Ethiopian Marble Processing Enterprise, through a bid of Birr 110,000,000.

The paid up capital of the company was Birr 43,000,000 (forty three million birr) in 1994 G.C, and this capital has grown from year to year and in 2001; it reached Birr 103,000,000 (one hundred and three million birr) and now 213,000,000 (two hundred and thirteen million birr).

Expansions and branches

• The 3 Quarries (Dalati and Metekel) found on the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State delivers raw materials to factories,
• Has manufacturing factories in Awash 7 Kilo town and Gulele sub-city of Addis Ababa to produce marble, granite and terrazzo tiles.
• Recently Acquired granite block quarry in the eastern part of the Oromia Regional State has been depleted.

Main Functions of the company

• Exploration, development, production, and refining of natural minerals and petroleum products, Export and procurement of imported and related products.
• Conduct field and laboratory studies on essential minerals to determine the natural state of the minerals and petroleum, chemical composition, size, length and volume of the stock.
• Mining deep wells to ensure the size and quality of the collection.

The products are generally used for window sill and doors sill, Stairs, floor tiles, edge work, siding, kitchen top, etc.

The location of the production Sites

• The company has Marble quarries at benishangul gumuz regional state (Dallati and Metekel Marble quarry sites). These quarry sites of marble and granite blocks production potential are estimated to be More than 10 million cubic meter and 3 million cubic meter respectively.
• The company has also granite quarry located at eastern part of Oromia Regional state at Babbile zone and the quarry is estimated to have 3 million cubic meter granite block deposit.

 In addition the company recently acquired license for limestone quarry at Hakim Gara, Harrer regional state.

• The company has processing plant located at Afar Region State at Awash 7 kilo town and Addis Ababa Gulele Sub city.

• Shaped marble and granite block products (from quarry) are supplied to factories; Products are manufactured from marble, granite or terrazzo inputs according to customer needs;
• In addition to working to improve the quality of the product, quality inspection is carried out before customers receive it.

Basic facts and Activities of the company

• After the establishment, NMIC recognized the mining operation by employing the services of expatriates and local experts.
• Dimensional stones samples were tested at renowned foreign laboratories which proved to be of high quality.
• NMIC also opened new additional quarry fronts to increase the products mix, production and productivity.
• Additional state-of-the-art machinery and equipment such as Diamond wire plants, DTH perforators and other quarry machinery were purchased, which boost production in the quarry
• In addition marble gang saw and block cutters, bridge cutters and computerized shaping machines were also injected into the factory.
• Training of the employees was made both in-house and abroad to upgrade their knowledge as to the current situation in the industry.
• It has participated at different local and international exhibitions and trade fairs to introduce its materials and is a member of Marble Institute of America (MIA) and Afristone.

This move has contributed positively to NMIC’s competitiveness locally and abroad and helped capture a good market position. At present, one product, called Boca, is being marketed, in bulk to the Far East and Italy.

• Currently plans are underway to double production in the quarry by acquiring new modern machinery. These are, and Diamond Wire Machine; this will lower the mining cost, which enable us to supply blocks both to local and foreign markets at cheaper and more competitive price.
• A new blue marble by the name of ‘Eshet Blue’ is being introduced as stone of the Millennium, and as part of the intensification of products and services, presently, it has already captured the Italian and Chinese Market and the others are expected to follow suit.
